Here I Go

This is it.  I decided that it’s time I make a commitment to working on my craft.  I have become far too lazy.  Both writing and illustrating or painting takes practice and cramming assignments or projects just isn’t the way to go.  And this is why I’ve started this blog.   It’s like Julie Powell making a commitment by starting a Julie/Julia blog and actually doing what she set out to do.  It’s like Oprah going public about her eating makeovers.

The idea behind it, at least for me, is that if I make a commitment by writing things down in a notebook or a journal, I can very easily walk away from it.  If I blog it, whether or not anyone out there reads it, it’s public and that’s enough to keep me at it.  I know, I know, it’s pride.  I remember years ago when I was still dancing and conducting aerobic workouts, one of my friends asked how it was that I could sustain doing so many reps of one of the more difficult abdominal exercises.  I told him it was simply pride.

My commitment, therefore, is this: I will write something at least five days a week and include an illustration each time.  The illustration can be a quick sketch or a work in progress (to be posted no matter what stage it’s in!).  Today’s illustration happens to be one I just finished this morning.  I’ve posted it in my portfolio on the SCBWI website as well.  Maybe I’m off to a good start.

This was inspired by my niece, Sabrina.  I was floundering about, at a loss over what to paint. I heard her playing her violin in her room and voila!

Please leave a comment or just a hello! I'd love to hear from you!
